SCOTT SIGLER AUDIOBOOKS

This is the Mac Daddy of Podcasting.  His works are some of the most read in Podiosphere.  His stories are visceral, bloody, and damn thrilling.  Not for the tame of heart or squeemish of stomach.  His story Infected had me itching for weeks (literally).  Check out the Future Dark Overlord here.

MUR LAFFERTY

Mur Lafferty is a pod-goddess and her site, The Murverse, contains her Parsec winning superhero story, Playing For Keeps, as well as her other amazingly cool projects.  She also the editor of Escape Pod, which is amazing anthology of science fiction podcasts.  But one of the podcasts I find so informative and inspriational is Mur's I Should Be Writing.  This is absolutely essential listening for anyone who fancies themselves an aspiring writer/journalist.

This is one of the first podcasting authors I that got me hooked so click, look & listen.

J.C. HUTCHINS

J.C. Hutchins is one of the best writers in the game.  His trilogy, 7th Son, is widely considered one of the best podiobooks out there.  J.C. was one of the first podcasting authors out there and he continues to innovate with projects like Personal Effects: Dark Arts, where readers receive actual physical items that they characters possess as well as phone numbers and website to call to learn more about the story than even some of the characters know.  Such cool stuff.  Please check him.

SETH HARWOOD

If you're looking for a break from sci-fi, then Seth Harwood is your man!  His crime novels are some of the most gripping I've heard in my headphones.  His style is gritty, urban, in your face and tough.  For a New York boy like me, I like the way this cat rolls.  His podiobooks, Jack Wakes Up and Jack Palms series and latest novel Young Junius are completely kick-ass.

P.G. HOLYFIELD

Holyfield is an audio drama rockstar!  His work, Murder at At Avedon Hill, is a dense, captivating audio drama as well as one of my Parsec Award co-nominees for Best Audio Drama 2009.  It was recently licensed for print by Dragon Moon press.  If you like medieval tales of mystery, magic, and murder, then you won't find a more engaging podcast on the net.  I can't say enough good good things about the man, the writer, and podcasting stud that is Holyfield.  The guy even has song written about him!

THE HEAVENFIELD

This is one of my favorite podcasts hands down and I'm making it my personal mission to see that it gets more attention.  I.G. Hulme has created an eerie world that lies parallel to our own known as The Heavenfield.  Through government conspiracy and supernatural forces, the two realms are are about to collide and life as we know it seems to hang in the balance.  I love the website design, the narration style, the realistic dialog, and just about everything else about this podcast.  The author is also an accomplished artist and has created beautiful, haunting original artwork for each chapter.  You really have to click on this!

THE BRYON CHRONICLES

If someone asked what my top favorite audio dramas are, this one would be at the top of the list.  Eric Busby designed one of the richest soundscapes in fantasy podcasts with a full cast of actors starring the incomparable David Ault.  The lead character Byron is immortal (I like him already) and is forced to continually protect his beloved home city of Portland against ongoing supernatural threats.  The sound effects here are very strong and you really feel immersed in the moody, spooky atmosphere that Busby created.

GAIA'S VOYAGES

Gaia's Voyages is a rich, space themed audio drama written by world traveller Elaine Barrett.  The plot centers around a giant, living ship created 5 centuries in the future.  Gaia is not a ship of war but a ship of science, exploration, education, and conservation.  Thrilling adventures takes place in this production with huge cast of actors lending their considerable talents.

METAMOR CITY

Written by Chris Lester, this podcast won the Parsec Award for Best Audio Drama in 2009.  Metamor City is mysterious world where magic and technology collide in dark urban setting.  Vampires, elves and psionic humans live side by side in giant metropolis.  I really like the mix of stand alone short stories and overall novel story arc that exist simultaneously in this podcast.  Huge fan base so listen in!

THE MOTH PODCAST

The Moth Podcast is a storytelling series told live without notes in major cities around the country.  I cannot tell you how much I enjoy this podcast and its usually one of the first things I check and listen to on my iPod.  Some of the stories are fantastically funny and will cause you to start cracking up randomly on your morning commute.  Others are tragically sad and have literally brought me to tears.  And that's exactly what I love, you never know at the beginning of each story where the journey or storyteller will take you.  I've attended some of the Moth StorySlams in the Greenwich Village and the house is always packed.  The stories are 10-15 minutes so this is great for some truly inspired entertainment in short bursts.  You're really missing out if you don't check this one.

CHILDREN OF THE GODS

This was the first major audio drama I started to listen to when I got into podcasting a few years ago.  Everything else I heard was straight narration but when I finally clicked Play and heard CotG, it was like an earthquake went off in my head.  This space based battle drama has starship battles, personal drama and alien encounters that keep you a tense tight ride through the future of humanity after surviving a near genocide.  Chris Mack has done a truly ground breaking job of embracing production values that are second to none.  I found this absolutely captivating when I first heard it and I still do.

THE HOUSE OF GREY

The best way to describe House of Grey is Harry Potter meets Andover or Choate.  This is a truly epic story with over 40 full episodes.  The story is wonderful tale of mystery as you slowly learn more about the mysterious past of Monson Grey as he tries to navigate the minefields of high school in an privileged elite setting.  I've meet the author Collin Earl and his partner Chis Snelgrove at DragonCon and these guys are incredibly cool and creative.  I really enjoyed this podcast.

BROKENSEA PRODUCTIONS

OK, if you are really digging audio drama - this is the site for you.  BrokenSea is a conglomerate of scores of other incredible audio dramas (I counted 30 on last check).  Dr. Who, Battlestar Galactica & Escape From New York are just some of the titles that are released under the BrokenSea banner.  This is one-stop shopping to hear some amazing acting with great audio drama production values.  Hard to believe all of these are free...

AGE OF THE ZOMBIES

This is another podcast that I just plain out love.  Dave Frizzell has done an outstanding job of keeping the zombie genre fresh and tight with cutting edge audio drama production values.  The story takes place after the Earth has been ravaged by plague and deadly zombies now roam the planet.  Only a few scattered group of healthy human remain desperately clinging to life as they try to survive in the age of the zombies.  So much fun, this one.  And Dave is a fantastic guy on top of it!

STAR WARS: IN THE SHADOWS

OK, when I first I heard this, I swore someone had just sent me a snippet of The Empire Strikes Back.  This audio drama is AMAZING!  Dany Pepin and his Creative Audioscape team have done such a first class job bringing the Star Wars Universe we love to life in your headphones.  The music, the effects, the laser blasts, everything.  This production has won multiple awards including Best Audio Drama at the Fan Audio Academy Awards.  I cannot express how rich and professional this podcast sounds.  Makes me jealous!
